NME Magazine Layout

Software: InDesign, Photoshop

As a page layout assignment, we were required to create two spreads for an interview that included text on three of four pages. I found an article from New Musical Express (NME) Magazine, a British music and pop culture bi-monthly magazine and website. They are known as the world’s defining voice in music and pop culture; breaking what’s new and what’s next.

I researched some recent NME layouts and found that they have two modes: clean and chaos. They play with space and allow images to flow across the spine to the next page. I wanted the interview to be the focus, so I only used text wrap around an image once with the frontman Kevin Parker. I used that first portrait of Kevin Parker for the color palette and sourced images where Kevin was wearing purple or was backlit by purple.
