The Open Door

Software: Capture, Fresco, Illustrator, Photoshop

The Open Door is Dakota County’s largest hunger relief organization based out of Eagan, MN. Each month, they serve about 25,000 people across Dakota County with 75% of the food they distribute being fresh.

I was approached by the Open Door to help expand their branding. Their branding is built on a lot of bright colors, textures, and photography that shows authenticity. They honor humanity and they want their branding to feel organic and human.

One of their elements is a variety of fruits and veggies in an illustrated linocut style. They requested a new asset pack in the linocut style that was uniquely theirs.

I wanted to give them a vector asset pack that could be infinitely scaled to use for everything from business cards to large signage for events, but still had texture. Using Capture, I created vector textures that I could overlay to give the illustrations grit and imperfections. I used these assets to create a repeating pattern in their primary colors and two of their secondary colors for future merchandise.

I was later asked for additional vector assets and a new logo for the monthly newsletter “The Grapevine” in the linocut style (below). The team at the Open Door used the illustrations to create the vehicle wrap on their new van.
